About this repair
A carburetor mixes air and fuel through tiny jets and passages, and stale fuel gums them up. We take it apart, clean every jet and passage, replace worn gaskets and needles where needed and set it back up. Common on older cars and small engines.
Signs you need it
- Hard starting, especially when cold
- Rough or surging idle
- Black smoke or a strong smell of fuel
- Stalling at low speed, or after sitting unused
Don't replace it. Repair it.
Before you replace the engine
A replacement is the most expensive answer, and not always the only one. A leaking gasket, a failed sensor, a worn timing part or a single damaged cylinder can look like a dead engine. We find the real cause first.

Common questions
Why does my engine run badly after sitting?
Fuel left in a carburetor evaporates and leaves a varnish that blocks the jets. A proper clean usually fixes it.
Can a carburetor always be cleaned, or does it need replacing?
Most can be cleaned. If it is cracked, badly worn or corroded, we tell you so and explain the options.
