Pistons, rings, bearings and machine work to bring a worn engine back.

About this repair
A rebuild takes the engine apart, measures everything, replaces what is worn and puts it back together to specification. It is the heavy-duty route when the block is sound and the wear is inside. We tell you honestly what the teardown finds before going further.
Signs you need it
- Blue-gray smoke on startup or under load from worn rings or valve seals
- Oil pressure that drops when the engine is hot
- Rod or main bearing knock
- Falling power with compression that is low across the board
Don't replace it. Repair it.
Before you replace the engine
A replacement is the most expensive answer, and not always the only one. A leaking gasket, a failed sensor, a worn timing part or a single damaged cylinder can look like a dead engine. We find the real cause first.

Common questions
Is a rebuild worth it?
It depends on the car, the engine and the damage. For a vehicle that is otherwise in good shape, a rebuild can cost far less than a new car. We give you the facts so you can decide.
Will the engine need machine work?
Often. Surfaces such as the block deck and the cylinder head have to be flat and the bores true. That is measured during teardown, so the full picture comes after the engine is opened up.
